INDIANAPOLIS — Courtesy of the Texans’ communications staff, postgame notes from the Texans’ 19-16 loss to the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 16:
THE TEXANS…
- Fell to 10-5 overall, 4-1 against AFC South opponents, 5-3 on the road and 1-1 against Indianapolis this season.
- Scored following Indianapolis’ fumble on the game’s opening play. The touchdown gave the team 113 points off of 26 takeaways this season. Houston has scored following 19 of its takeaways this season.
- Scored on their opening drive for the eighth time this season.
- Led after the first quarter, at halftime and after three quarters for the 11th time this season. Houston fell to 8-3 in those games.
- Scored on their opening possession of the second half for the ninth time this season and the second consecutive game when K Neil Rackers hit a 35-yard field goal.
- Outrushed the Colts 171 to 95. It was the 10th time this season that the Texans outrushed their opponents, and the team fell to 8-2 in those games.
- Team captains were C Chris Myers on offense; ILB Brian Cushing, ILB DeMeco Ryans and DE Antonio Smith on defense; and K Neil Rackers representing the special teams.
- The Texans won the toss and deferred their option until the second half. Indianapolis elected to receive the opening kickoff.
OLB CONNOR BARWIN
- Sacked Indianapolis QB Dan Orlovsky for a loss of 7 yards in the first quarter, raising his season total to 11.5. It gave Barwin sacks in each of the last three games. The sack moved him into second place on the franchise’s career sack list. He entered the game tied with Kailee Wong with 15.0 sacks apiece.
ILB BRIAN CUSHING
- Registered his fourth sack of the season when he tackled Indianapolis QB Dan Orlovsky for a 3-yard sack on the first play of the game. He forced a fumble on the play, his first of the season and the fourth of his career.
- Tied his career high and the franchise single-game record with his second forced fumble of the game when he knocked the ball loose in the fourth quarter. Cushing also did so at Cincinnati on 10/18/09.
- Finished with a team-leading and game-high 12 tackles, including seven solos. It was the 11th time this season that Cushing either led the team or tied for the team lead in tackles.
TE OWEN DANIELS
- Extended his personal streak of consecutive games played with a reception to 68 when he caught a 1-yard pass in the first quarter.
RB ARIAN FOSTER
- Surpassed the 3,000-yard mark for his career on a 28-yard run at the end of the first quarter. He entered the game needing 61 yards to reach the mark and reached it on his seventh carry.
- Surpassed the 100-yard mark on his 12th carry of the night, a gain of 30 yards in the third quarter. It was his seventh 100-yard game of the season and the 16th of his career.
- Set a season high in rushing yards with 158. His previous high was 155 in Week 4 vs. Pittsburgh (10/2).
- Set a career high for rushing yards in a road game, topping his previous high of 133 at Oakland on 10/3/10.
- Ran for a 9-yard touchdown on Houston’s second offensive play of the game. It was his 10th rushing touchdown of the season and the 29th of his career.
WR JACOBY JONES
- Caught a 17-yard pass in the third quarter which put him over 5,000 career total yards. He entered the game with 4,994 career yards (21 rushing, 1,679 receiving, 1,804 punt returns and 1,490 kick returns).
- Had a 15-yard run in the third quarter. It was the second-longest carry of his career, trailing a 17-yard run at Buffalo on 11/1/09.
CB BRICE MCCAIN
- Tied a career high with seven tackles, including six solo stops.
K NEIL RACKERS
- Set the franchise single-season scoring record on his third field goal of the game. The kick gave him 125 points on the year, besting the previous mark of 124 set by Rackers last season and Kris Brown in 2008.
- Set the franchise single-season record for field goal attempts on his third attempt of the game. The kick was his 35th of the season, topping the previous record of 34 by Kris Brown in 2005.
OLB BROOKS REED
- Recovered a fumble on the first play of the game. It was his second fumble recovery of the season.
DE J.J. WATT
- Registered an 8-yard sack in the second quarter, giving him 5.5 on the year. That made Watt and OLB Brooks Reed the ninth pair of rookies to each register at least five sacks since 1982, when sacks became an official stat, and the first duo since Derrick Rodgers and Jason Taylor for Miami in 1997.
QB T.J. YATES
- Completed 13-of-16 passes for 132 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions, giving him a career-high passer rating of 101.0.
